Service Above Self
Jamie Smith was born and raised in Beaumont, TX and has been a lifelong resident of Jefferson County except when he attended the GREAT Texas A& M University, and when he served his country during Desert Storm with the United States Army.
His rich work history s full of many years of service to his community. He served as a Training Office with the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department, and later as a middle school Math teacher, then as office Administrator of the Jefferson County Clerk's office, and for the last 10 years as Jefferson County District Clerk. He also served as Beaumont Ward IV City Council member. So, he truly has lived a life of service to others.
Jamie is married to Melanie Smith. And he has 3 sons (Julian, Justin and Jordan). He believes the two best things in life are his 2 grandchildren (Zoe and LJ).
The District Clerk's office is more efficient, transparent and accessible since Smith took office. He and his staff have implemented e-filing and digitized thousands of records many which were available only by paper prior to him taking office. His background in Information Management and experience digitizing records in the County Clerk's Office helped he and his team to build a platform that allows for secure online acecss. The new case management system was implemented ahead of schedule and under budget. And allows lawyers, judges, law enforcement easy access to records online.
In addition to digitizing files and implementing e-filing and online access, the District Clerk's office has improved Jury Management with the I-Jury System. They have streamlined jury summons with the I-Jury System allowing potential jurors to check-in online and receive real time text notifications. There's no need for the cattle calls of former days where you sat in the Jury impaneling Room for hours and sometimes days. This system saves time and money. Plus it has increased jury participation.
The District Clerk's office has prioritized customer service. Every member of our staff is. not just trained in procedures, but in service - everyone who walks through our doors is treated with respect, clarity and professionalism.
The District Clerk is responsible for safeguarding some of the most sensitive records in our judicial system - court cases, evidence logs, financial filings and more. Under Jamie's leadership they have implemented stronger cybersecurity protocols, improved document tracking and passed every audit with flying colors.
They also began processing passports ten years ago which provided a new revenue source. This allowed the Clerk's office to return funds to the County.
The District Clerk's staff believes in being involved in their community and throughout the year volunteer for numerous events throughout the year: Family Services, BISD (Roar Program), YMBL (Special Kids Days), Senior Citizen Appreciation Days, Take Your Loved One to the Doctor Day, Health Fairs, Heritage Festival, Boots and Bulls, MLK Events, Holidays and Homecoming Parades.
